New percussion class underway

by Brian Murphy

The fourteen pupils of Drogheda Brass Band's new Percussion Class may well be on their Christmas holidays, but you can be sure that there's plenty of enthusiastic noise being made at home on their practice pads during the festive period!

And their teacher, Cathrina Smith, herself a former member of the band, can be proud of what she's achieved so far with the group.

There was huge interest in the class when Director of the School of Music, Brian Murphy, advertised the idea in the local media and throughout the band.

Percussion class underway.

The current group range in age from 7 to 10 in the two younger classes at 7pm and 7.30pm while three adults make up the 8pm class.

"It was a fantastic idea to advertise it outside the normal circles", said Brian. "We got so many enquiries and there was a great buzz about the place as the classes commenced. We're hoping that a couple of the pupils will be ready for some junior band work next summer."
