Announcement of Skoda Ltd. Patronage Scheme
by Brian Murphy and Trevor Johnston
The Drogheda Brass Band is delighted to announce that they have entered into a patronage agreement with Skoda Ltd. The announcement was made official to all band members following a rehearsal at which Mr. Eddie Thornton posed for photographs with some players.
This quite a historic feat, as the band is now the only band in the country to have the backing of a major company. This is something the current Band Committee should be praised for, not only for securing the patronage scheme, but raising the profile of the band so much in recent years, that a major international company actually approached us looking to get involved.
The Band was pleased to hear that Mr. Eddie Thornton of Skoda Sales and Mr. Don Hall of Hall Communications were able to attend the "Brass on Broadway" concert, held in September 1997.
Band Secretary Brian Murphy stated,
"The Trojan work being carried out by this current committee and in particular Tony Collins and Christy Smith has been rewarded at last. And the significant point to note is that we were actually approached by Skoda about this scheme."
